Heaven Hill Bottled In Bond Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey

  • October 9th, 2023

My Notes

I had never had a bottle of Heaven Hill until I picked one up for this review. I expected this 7 year bottled in bond whiskey coming in at 100 proof to be a bit more oaky and hot on the pallete, it was furthest from the case here. Its a really smooth drink, with a surprising amount of flavor coming though, too.

Smelling it from the glass, it has a bit of toffee, a little alcohol burn, fair amount of vanilla and maybe a little caramel. Tasting it took be by surprise, caramel, toffee, vanilla, some spices and a little oaky wood. The proof really doesnt show up til the end, but mixes with some caramel and cocoa to round out the sip. This was an unexpected treat.

Pick this bottle up for a more advanced drinker, someone who likes a little bit more proof on the whiskey and appreciates a little age on the spirit. If you can get it under $50, pick it up right away. I think $50 is the sweet spot for this 7 year whiskey.

How to Taste
With your whiskey at room temperature, put the glass near your nose and close your eyes and inhale. What do you smell? Drink a sip, just enough to cover your tounge and swish it around front, left and right. then down the hatch. What do you taste? If it burns a little, maybe try to add a couple drops of water. Otherwise, try again - usually after the initial burn, you may get some of the flavors you are looking for.
