Whiskey Acres Rye Single Barrel

Being a single barrel selection, the taste I described might vary slightly from barrel to barrel. This barrel pick was barrel #719.
My Notes
Whiskey Acres is a small distillery in Dekalb, Illinois that produces some really well balanced whiskies. This stright rye single barrel store pick is no exception. The sweet and savory notes mix really well together from the spices and bitter orange peel to the sweet vanilla and caramel notes on the finish. Coming in at 119.8 proof means this one is going to burn a little more than a lower proof bottle, but it is wonderful at this ABV.
I reccomend this in an old fashioned, with some nice brown sugar simple syrup, some angostura bitters and a dash of orange bitters to bring out the orange notes on this Rye. For $60 bucks this is certainly a bottle worth having on your bar if you like a Rye old fashioned.

How to Taste
With your whiskey at room temperature, put the glass near your nose and close your eyes and inhale. What do
you smell?
Drink a sip, just enough to cover your tounge and swish it around front, left and right. then down the
hatch. What do you taste?
If it burns a little, maybe try to add a couple drops of water. Otherwise, try again - usually after the
initial burn, you may get some of the flavors you are looking for.
