My Notes

When I was looking around Chicago for some local distilleries, Kennay Farms popped up. I hadn't seen these bottles anywhere in stores. So I had to hunt some down. This rye surprised me, it doesnt drink like a traditional rye, with the spiciness of the rye grain being at the forefront, its there in this drink - but its just not the main character.

The thing that struck me is the overwhelming flavor of cherry on this Rye. Its in the nose, taste and finish. From a fresh picked cherry to a candied and brandied cherry flavor. The rye peeks up now and again to give your tounge a punch, but the sweetness of the corn and wheat really balances this rye out.

At $30, if you can pick one of these bottles up, do it. I think they are only in select areas around northern Illinois right now and I know they are working on some more aged varieties, so I will be watching them closely.

How to Taste
With your whiskey at room temperature, put the glass near your nose and close your eyes and inhale. What do you smell? Drink a sip, just enough to cover your tounge and swish it around front, left and right. then down the hatch. What do you taste? If it burns a little, maybe try to add a couple drops of water. Otherwise, try again - usually after the initial burn, you may get some of the flavors you are looking for.
