Kennay Farms Single Barrel Bourbon

Being a single barrel selection, the taste I described might vary slightly from barrel to barrel. This was the private barrel from Jewel-Osco
My Notes
Kennay Farms has only a few whiskies out right now and when I saw they had a single barrel expression of their straight bourbon I was so excited. This is the Jewel-Osco private barrel selection from Kennay Farms and with a proof of 111, this doesnt disappoint.
There is a nice sweet finish to this bourbon after the initial tastes of cinnamon, oak and orange peel. I also got a bitter cocoa on the pallete. The smell is nice, cinnamon, citrus and rasins. This is a nice sipper, especially for the price of $40, if you are in the Chicagoland area.
I could see this mixing well into a good old fashioned with some orange bitters to pull out some of those citrus notes. Although if you had to choose between this and the Rye, choose the rye.

How to Taste
With your whiskey at room temperature, put the glass near your nose and close your eyes and inhale. What do
you smell?
Drink a sip, just enough to cover your tounge and swish it around front, left and right. then down the
hatch. What do you taste?
If it burns a little, maybe try to add a couple drops of water. Otherwise, try again - usually after the
initial burn, you may get some of the flavors you are looking for.
